Encourage One Another and Build One Another Up

On my Food for the Poor Calendar, it has scripture from the Bible. When I read this at the beginning of the month, I was amazed at how timely it was to my life.

Therefore, encourage one another and build one another as, as indeed you do.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

It seems to be quite fitting in this give me, give me, its all about me age. Not only is it applicable in my real life, it is applicable in my blogging life as well.

So many people, it is all about them and tearing people down instead of building them up. When we help to build others up and do unselfish acts, it in turn helps to bring us UP as well.

For example, when I link to other blogs. It gives them traffic as well as allowing my blog readers to find other relevant reading options. As much as I want to,  I really can’t be the complete, absolute resource to my readers  as it is just be running my blog. It doesn’t hurt to me share my traffic. My blog wouldn’t have grown if it hadn’t been for others linking to me.

So when I link to others, in turn those blogs may or may not link to me. It is about building relationships. Bringing people up and not tearing them down.

Too many times lately have I heard or seen others bringing other people down in a variety of ways. I don’t want to be a part of bringing people down. I want to be a person to help build them up!

Goals for 2010

I hate to write these things down because I’m afraid I will set myself up to fail. But really, I need to be held accountable. I’ve written about some of my money saving/bargain goals at Bargain Briana. These goals are more personal.

  1. Eat healthier, thus lose these pesky 30 lbs. Since I started my meatless diet last year, I’ve gained weight. Probably because I’m not eating healthy and getting my calories from unhealthy sources like French Fries, Onion Rings, those 450 calorie BK Veggie Burgers. Yes, there is such a thing as an overweight vegetarian. I’m trying though. Solution: Use a FREE program called Spark People to help track my daily calories. There is even a FREE iPhone app, which I’m now addicted too.
  2. Exercise on a regular basis. When I was fit & trim, I was running 3-5 miles several times a week. I need to get back to that. Somehow, I got lazy over the winter, too many excuses, etc. You know the story. Solution: I’m loading new music on my iPhone and using the Nike + iPod app system to track my walking/running. I have to start back at a brisk walk as I’m VERY out of shape. For more toning and lighter exercise, I will play with the Wii Fit Plus. Which, somehow has me at my high school weight and being 119 lbs. Uh, yeah, in my dreams.
  3. Work on my 40×40 plan. I really want to cross some of those things off my list!
  4. Organize myself and my life. I feel if  I can get to that place where I’m organized, then #4 will fall into place. Some of the things I’ve been doing with this is making lists, deeply organizing a room every couple of days, and cleaning as I see things messed up.
  5. Balance blog time and family time better.
  6. Work on that bitchiness I have in me. Think before I snap. Oh, sometimes that is hard since some people deserve it so much!

Sometimes it is so hard to accomplish my goals. I don’t like starting projects unless I know I have time to finish them. But that’s just an excuse. I can sneak 5-10 minutes here and there to finish those projects and in the end those 5-10 minutes will add up.

Same with exercise. My excuse has been I don’t have 30 minutes every day. Okay, maybe I don’t have 30 minutes but isn’t 10-15 minutes better than NOTHING at all. Even 10 minutes will keep my in a routine. So even if I don’t have time to do it “perfect” I’m going to still try to meet these goals.

Why is Peyton Manning Mad?

“Why is Peyton Manning mad?”

This is what my five year old son asks me when he comes into the living room last night. What an observant question.

I was really mad to see the Colts blow away a perfect season last night. I can imagine how a competitor like Peyton Manning felt. One thing I do know, is I.would.not. have wanted to be in the locker room after the game. I’m imagining creepy silence.

Then, the booing from the crowd when Painter came on the field. I don’t think they were necessarily booing the homegrown rookie quarterback but booing at the decision to take out the starters. Yeah, if Painter would have come out with 2 touchdowns and won the game, I think the booing would have ceased.

We kn0w from past experience when the Colts rest the starters, we don’t succeed. Why not learn from history?

I read tweets on twitter about the depth of our team when you take Peyton Manning out. Yes, Peyton Manning is important in many ways. Most of all for morale. You have confidence when Peyton Manning is playing.

When you have the back up quarter back or the back up to the back up quarterback playing, you kind of watch the game with your eyes half open.  You cringe hoping that nothing terrible happens. Then it does.

Is the off chance that a starter might get hurt during a game with no meaning? But shouldn’t every game have meaning? Shouldn’t every game be played with 100% strength?

The only solace I receive from this loss is that the Steelers may not make the playoffs because the Jets won.

Is Santa Real?

“Is Santa Real?”

This burning question from a five year old. Instead of waiting Eli answers his own question. “Santa is dead.”

Ah, uh, okay. That is rather morbid.

“Santa is dead because last year I wasn’t good and I still got presents. If Santa was still alive, he wouldn’t bring me presents because I wasn’t good.”

Hmm. Interesting.

It kinds of continues the conversation from last year with this statement, “I wasn’t good this year but Santa still brought me presents.” We chuckled at this four year old’s statement.

So this year we are even more baffled? Maybe, a lump of coal this year would make him believe Santa IS real? I’m sure “Santa” is considering that possibility right now.

Oh, yeah, and I apologize to any parents in his preschool class. He has been having arguments with kids about this very subject.

Sofia's Nails

Sofia’s Nails, originally uploaded by bargainbri.

For some odd reason, I took Fifi along with me to get my nails and toes done. While, we were their the lady asked if she wanted her nails done. Of course, she did!

She sat so still. I really don’t think I’ve ever seen her sit that still. She loved the finished flowers on her nails.

However, it didn’t take long for the polish to wear off especially on her two favorite fingers!

Applesauce

apple sauce

Apparently, to my three year old daughter that is what mommy smells like.

At first I was a little puzzled because while I was holding her. She said, “Mommy, your hair smells like applesauce.” I just kind of chuckled.

Then I looked at my lotion I used this morning and it was a CVS Brand, Essence of Beauty in Pomegranate Apple.

Kids are so cute.

Doubling Dating

I could probably have a blog just on the hilarious things that Eli tells us. Seriously. He has some outrageous stories. I really need to start documenting them better to torture him when he is older.

He comes home from preschool one day last spring and quips that “Meghan is doubling date me and Trey.”

So I replied, you mean Trey is going out with another girl?

“No, she is doubling dating both of us.”

Hannah, who is eleven, screeched, “Eli, that isn’t double dating, that is cheating.” Of course, then Hannah runs off to text Meghan’s older sister to tell her the latest Meghan/Eli drama.

His hopes were dashed. He stood there looking confused and defeated. But, really, preschoolers “dating.” The whole scenario is comical.
