This is my first Wordless Wednesday! #20 is “mine”. The others are the spectators (my other two babies!)
Tipton Won the Sectional!
With another hard fought game, our Tipton Blue Devils won the Sectional against Guerin High School. Very exciting to win Sectionals 2 years in a row! Lots of credit goes to our team who has worked hard all season!
Of course, I loved what the opposing coach had to say about my cousin:
“I thought we played tentative and [the Devils] can do that to you — they play very physical and they’re very strong,” Guerin coach Pete Smith said. “[Greg] Dickey makes their defense go with his ball pressure. Bradley [Yust] doesn’t see very much ball pressure like that. That was one of the toughest nights he’s had all season, and that’s a credit to Dickey.”
We will now face Ft. Wayne Luers yet again. This year the outcome WILL be different than last year. It is bound to be a good game and possibly the “real” state championship as it is the #1 (us) and #2 (Luers) teams in the state facing off. Last year Luers after defeating us in the Regional Championship, Luers went on to win the state.
I took a ton of videos with my flip camcorder after the game and will work on putting together a video montage.
Here’s a couple of good links:
Finding a New Pediatrician
After having an appointment with our Pediatrican, we learned the hospital decided not to renew her contract and the practice will be closed by June 1st. If she finds a new position before then, she will probably leave sooner. This is very sad to me as we’ve grown to love our Ped and the entire staff (love you Max!) over the many years we’ve been patients.
Everyone has their own opinions and her approach wasn’t maybe for everyone. Personally, I prefer a doctor doesn’t use her script pad like it is going out of style. Some people, though, prefer to have a prescription written every single time they see the doctor. You really just have to find a doctor that fits you.
We live in a small town with very little choices. I really prefer to have a Pediatrician treating my children as that is their speciality and they won’t accidentially give you the wrong dosage of samples for your child which causes you to have to call poison control or prescribe medication you should not take while pregnant. Plus, many of the established doctors are not taking new patients. For now, we are staying with our current Pediatrician but I’m on the look out for a new one as I don’t want an emergency situation to happen and not have an established doctor for my children.
Apparently, I’m going to have to drive at least 20 minutes north or south to find a Pediatrician. Bummer. I loved having one right in town as it was very convenient.
Which brings me to the “Clarian” issue. Since Clarian bought Tipton Hospital, things have been changing and NOT for the better in my opinion. The recently renovated OB department is gone. Even in an emergency they are not equipped to deliver a baby so you might as well just keep driving and not even bother stopping. The Emergency Room is beautiful but they can’t help you in an emergency delivery. I wonder how long before they decide to not renew the OB’s contract?
I’m sure the reason the Pediatrician’s contract was not renewed was all about the money. It doesn’t have to do with caring about the young people in our community or wanting to retain young families. Having a Pediatrician in town, I believe, is a big positive for a small town like ours. If we want to attract young families to substain our town, I believe it needs to offer services for families like an OB department, Pediatrician, etc.
Were you aware of the big price differences between hospital? One procedure may be twice as high as another hospital which just as good ratings. This is true of Tipton Hospital. At my real life job I work closely with our insurance company as we have a self funded plan, and our administrator also commented on how Tipton Hospital was much higher than other hospitals.
Another Night, Another Basketball Game
Our Friday night was spent at the high school basketball sectional and it did not prove to be as nerve wrecking as Wednesday night in a good way. We won 74 to 14. An awesome win for our team and the boys needed an easy game after the tough physical battle on Wednesday night against Oak Hill. I really enjoy watching my younger cousin play basketball…he’s got the moves! One of the exciting plays he made tonight – he picked a guy’s pocket tonight and just took off for a beautiful lay off. There was no cameras there tonight as the news station had a more competitive game to film – but I wish we had that one on film!
As a parent, though, I felt bad for the other team. How demoralizing to only score 14 points in a tourney game and their faces just look so defeated the entire game. As a parent, I can’t imagine how hard it would have been to watch if you were on the other side. We didn’t run up the score either. During the second half, the coach rotated in junior varsity players and did not play any starters in the fourth quarter. Even our jv team is pretty darn good – they went 17-1 on the season.
So tomorrow night is another “date night” with the basketball team. We take on Guerin Catholic and it will be an more interesting game, I’m sure.
Exciting High School Basketball Game! Blue Devils Beat Oak Hill
Yet again, this year, the Tipton Blue Devils found themselves behind most of the game against a tough Oak Hill Eagles team. Yet again this year, the Blue Devils pulled the game out from under the Eagles in the last few minutes. Watch this video to see my little cousin Craig Greg swoosh a 3 pointer that tied the game up – hear the crowd roar! We play again Friday night. Games like this are bargain entertainment.
Hello world!
